Hangzhou, 25th September: China’s largest e-commerce company, the Alibaba Group, has announced plans to invest RMB 5.3 billion (US$807 million) in Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited, Alibaba’s logistics affiliate. This will raise Alibaba’s stake in the business from 47% to a majority position of 51%.

Hong Kong, 27th September: Earlier this week, the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) released the results of its annual exhibition survey. A total of 83 exhibition organisers responded including both “trade” and “trade and consumer” event organisers. To quality, the organisers must have hosted an event with a minimum size 2,000 m2 held during the previous year.

Kuala Lumpur, 21st September: International exhibition organiser, UBM plc, announced at its security, fire and safety event, IFSEC Southeast Asia in Kuala Lumpur that future editions of the event will alternate between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur beginning next year.

Bangkok, 22nd September: This week, Comexposium announced plans to co-organise Concrete Asia with IMPACT. The event will be co-located with INTERMAT ASEAN in 2018.

Hong Kong, 26th September: Global Sources will host its 2017 fall series of trade shows next month at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) featuring some 9,000 booths.

Hong Kong, 22nd September: Mega Expo (formerly known as Kenfair), a Hong Kong-based exhibition and event organiser, announced its financial results for the year ended 30th June 2017. The company reported total revenues of US$13 million – down 36% compared to the previous year. The company reduced its net loss to US$5.03 million compared with a loss of US$8.7 million in 2016.

Paris/Sydney, 19th September: This week, UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and EEAA, the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Sydney agreeing to cooperate in a number of key areas.

Malaysia, 19th September: Last week, at the Malaysia Association neXt (MyNext) 2017 Conference in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Society of Association Executives (MSAE) was officially established. Dato’ Dr Zaliha Omar was appointed as the association’s first president.

Thailand, 19th September: Last year, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) launched its “Meet Double Cities” package as part of the Thailand Connect campaign. Recently, TCEB has announced its intention to extend the package through to the end of 2018.

Bangkok, 4th September: International exhibition organiser, NürnbergMesse, will expand its BIOFACH portfolio to Thailand next year. BIOFACH Southeast Asia will be held at the IMPACT Exhibition Center from 12th to 15th July 2018 and will be held concurrently with the Natural Expo Southeast Asia.

Jakarta, 20th September: The inaugural Indonesia Dental Exhibition and Conference (IDEC) took place from 15th to 17th September 2017 at the Jakarta Convention Center. The event attracted over 4,000 Indonesian dental professionals.

Sydney, 15th September: ReedPOP Australia and the Australia Toy Association have announced plans to launch Play World Australia at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) running from 29th to 30th September 2018.

Hong Kong, 6th September: Last week, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) concluded its fashion event, CENTRESTAGE, attracting some 8,500 buyers from 73 countries and regions, which is an increase of 2.6% over last year’s event.

New Delhi, 4th September: UBM India, a UBM Asia subsidiary, hosted the 6th edition of the Delhi Jewellery and Gem Fair (DJGF) from 9th to 11th September 2017 at Pragati Maidan. The exhibition featured over 280 exhibitors from around the region.

Chengdu, 11th September: Organised by Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai, the Chengdu Motor Show (CDMS) 2017 concluded at the Chengdu City New International Convention and Exhibition Center on 3rd September. According to the organiser, CDMS featured some 116 auto brands.

Seoul, August: Later this year, Coex, a leading Korean venue and event organiser, will launch its first “expat lifestyle” fair. The Expat Fair will run from 9th to 10th December 2017.
