Economic impact of events in Melbourne up 25%

Melbourne, 21st August: The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) reports that there was an estimated 25% increase in economic impact from business events in the financial year 2017-2018. Business events in Melbourne generated revenues of A$396 million (US$291 million) from 176 events. The number of first-time visitors was the highest in the past seven years – including over 79,000 new visitors.

The Victorian state economy will also benefit from some high profile upcoming events including the Global Public Transport Summit 2021, the World Ophthalmology Congress 2022, VidCon Australia 2018 and 2019 and General Assembly and Congress of the International Union of Crystallography 2023. According to MCB, these events will generate revenues of over US$155 million (US$114 million) for the state economy.
