MCEC’s expansion now officially open

Melbourne, 8th July: This week, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) officially opened its new expansion on 8th July. The new halls add 20,000 m2 bringing MCEC’s total gross indoor space to 70,000 m2.

MCEC is forecasting that an additional 74,000 international visitors will come to the venue generating an economic impact A$167 million (US$123 million) annually for the state of Victoria. The MCEC expansion cost A$205 million (US$152 million). The expansion site includes: Goldfields Theatre – a 9,000 m2 multi-purpose event space with a retractable 1,000 seat theatre, new exhibition halls, meeting rooms, an outdoor terrace area, banquet space as well as the Goldfield Café and Bar. The first event to be held on site will be the 1st Malaria World Congress.
