Hong Kong, 6th July: Last month, UBM Asia concluded the 31st edition of the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (June Fair). The event attracted a total of 28,131 visitors from 91 countries and regions. This represents an increase of 9.7% from last year’s figure.

Shanghai, 18th July: The organisers of Texcare Asia and the China Laundry Expo signed a deal on 18th July 2018 agreeing to merge the two fairs into a single show covering the textile care and laundry chain industries in Asia.

Paris, 17th July: Last week, UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, announced the winner of its annual UFI Human Resources Award. The winner of the 2018 award is the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Paris, 18th July: Earlier this week, UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, released its latest biannual, Global Barometer Survey, reflecting the state of global trade show industry. All four global regions (Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East-Africa) reported positive developments related to turnover (revenues).

Melbourne, 8th July: This week, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) officially opened its new expansion on 8th July. The new halls add 20,000 m2 bringing MCEC’s total gross indoor space to 70,000 m2.

Hong Kong, 9th July: The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) opened its 25th Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring/Summer on 9th July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The event showcased about 1,100 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions.

Beijing, 5th July: The 7th All in CARAVANING (AIC) was held for the first time at Beijing Etrong International Exhibition & Convention Center, occupying a total exhibition area of 35,000 m2.

Brisbane, 5th July: Following a record year of activity by Brisbane Convention Bureau, the city is expected to generate more than A$96 million (US$71 million) of revenues directly attributable to convention activities.

Hong Kong, July: Recently, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) published its annual report for the financial year ended 31st March 2018. Revenues generated from the HKTDC’s exhibitions and missions were US$250 million, slightly higher than last year’s figure. The HKTDC’s total revenues, including a government subvention of US$49 million, were US$360 million – also similar to the previous year’s numbers.

Jakarta, 29th June: The inaugural edition of Hotelex Indonesia& Finefood Indonesia will be held from 18th to 20th July 2018 at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Jakarta. The event is expected to feature more than 200 companies from 26 countries, covering an exhibition space of more than 10,000 m2.

China, 27th June: Last week, Alibaba Group formally established the Luohan Academy, a global research program aiming to address the emerging economic consequences and social disruption generated by the digital economy.

Amsterdam, 27th June: The board of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) announced this week that its long-serving CEO, Martin Sirk, will step down from his position at the end of this month.

Tokyo/New York, 2nd July: Tokyo-based media company, Uzabase, has announced its plans to acquire Quartz for between US$75 million and US$110 million, depending on Quartz’s financial performance in 2018.

Asia, 2ndJuly: Earlier this week, Interpublic Group (IPG) announced that the company bought global data market firm, Acxiom Marketing Solutions for US$2.3 billion.

Hong Kong, 26th June: Last week, the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association (HKECIA) released the results of its annual exhibition survey. A total of 135 exhibitions with a gross size over 2,000 m2 were held during 2017. Among them, 87 were classified as “trade” and “trade and consumer” exhibitions. The remaining 48 exhibitions were purely “consumer” exhibitions, which were not included in the survey.
