Seoul, 30th May: The Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) has appointed Jae-sung Rhee, as its President and CEO for a three-year term. Former Executive Vice President of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), Rhee joined STO on 23rd April 2018. He worked at KTO for 33 years and has served in the position of director in every department at KTO.

Bangkok, 22nd May: Earlier this month, international exhibition organiser, the Tarsus Group, held the inaugural edition of its Labelexpo Southeast Asia. The exhibition attracted nearly 8,000 trade visitors from 62 countries.

Shanghai, 18th May: The eighth edition of transport logistic China concluded in Shanghai last week attracting 667 exhibitors and more than 26,000 trade visitors to the three-day show.

Beijing, 21st May: Baidu, Inc., the leading Chinese language Internet search provider, announced the company has entered into an agreement with unnamed investors to sell its stake in the Global DU business, which provides ad and tools apps.

Shanghai, 22nd May: International event organiser, Comexposium, recently appointed a new CEO for the Asia Pacific region. Elaine Chia will officially take on the role of CEO on 16th July 2018. She is replacing Paul Lee, who will officially leave the company at the end of May.

Hong Kong, 9th May: Earlier this month, Hong Kong-listed Sino Splendid (formerly China.com) announced its results for the quarter ended 31st March 2018. The company reported total revenues of US$2.0 million in the quarter, down 12% compared with the first quarter of 2017. Sino Splendid recorded a net loss of US$1.1 million in the quarter compared with a loss of US$773,000 in 2017.

Beijing, 9th May: CCID Consulting, a Hong Kong-listed Chinese media group, has announced its results for the quarter ended 31st March 2018. Revenues in the period were US$3.8 million, representing a 28% increase compared with the same quarter in 2017. The company posted a net loss of US$373,000 in the quarter, compared with a loss of US$522,000 recorded last year.

Bangkok, 27th April: This week, the China Great Wall International Exhibition Company (GIE), organiser of the China International Pet Show (CIPS), announced that the company has acquired a 50% stake in two pet shows in Bangkok organised by IMPACT. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

London, 15th May: Earlier this week, UBM plc released its trading update for the current financial year. During the period, UBM’s management reported good growth at some of its key events including Hotelex & FineFood in Shanghai. In addition, the Allworld integration work is also reportedly progressing well and its biennial show, Food and Hospitality Asia (FHA), in Singapore delivered strong growth.

Guangzhou, 15th May: International exhibition organiser, Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai Limited (HMFS), will cooperate with Guangzhou Best Exhibition Company, to launch a logistics equipment and technology exhibition in southern China.

Hong Kong, 10th May: Last month, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) organised seven fairs, which attracted more than 230,000 buyers from 176 countries and regions. That figure represents a 3% increase year-on-year. Over 130,000 of those buyers were from China and overseas. Overseas buyer numbers were up 4% compared with last year.

London, 15th May: This week, international event organiser, ITE Group plc, released its interim results for the six months ended 31st March 2018. Revenues for the period were £75.4 million (US$106 million), representing growth of 8% on a like-for-like basis. Profit before tax was £16.0 million (US$22.4 million), compared to £15.4 million (US$21.6 million) in the first half of the previous year. In addition, the company’s forward bookings for FY2019 were reportedly up 31%.

Düsseldorf, 15th May: International exhibition organiser, Messe Düsseldorf, has appointed a new COO. Wolfram Diener will join Messe Düsseldorf from UBM Asia. Diener will take up his new role on 1st October 2018. Messe Düsseldorf’s current managing director, Joachim Schäfer, will retire in late August.

Singapore, 10th May: The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced its chief executive, Lionel Yeo, will step down from his post on 31st May to join an unnamed company in the private sector.

Netherlands, 7th May: According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), there were a record number of 12,558 rotating international association events in 2017. That is 346 more than the figure recorded in 2016.

Kuala Lumpur, 7th May: The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) is currently expanding and the construction work is scheduled to be completed by mid-2019.

Hong Kong, 3rd May: The week, Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair (Medical Fair) concluded at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The exhibition attracted over 11,500 buyers from 70 countries and regions. That represents a 6.7% increase over last year.
