Clarion forms new JV with Indonesian organiser

Singapore/Indonesia, December: The leading event organiser, Clarion Events Group’s subsidiary, Clarion Events Asia, has announced plans to form a joint venture with PT Adhouse Indonesia CIPTA. The JV will be named PT Adhouse Clarion Events (PT ACE).


Through the new joint venture, Clarion maintains it will be able to effectively access the Indonesian market using Adhouse’s network and position to establish a strong foothold. Over the next two years, PT ACE also plans to launch new B2B conferences and large-scale exhibitions.

Labelexpo Asia 2017 attracts 20,000+ buyers

Shanghai, 15th December: Last month, international exhibition organiser, Tarsus Group, concluded its Labelexpo Asia 2017. The event featured over 20,000 buyers, which represents an increase of 20% over the last edition held in 2015.


The biennial Labelexpo Asia, now in its eighth edition, took place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), running from 5th to 8th December 2017. Occupying an exhibition area of 10,774 m2, some 300 companies exhibited at the show, including 80 first time exhibitors. The exhibition offered more than 50 working machines live on the show floor.

Alibaba Cloud opens data center in India

China/India, 20th December: Alibaba Group’s cloud computing arm, Alibaba Cloud, announced the company will open a new Indian data center in January. The new data center will be located in Mumbai and Alibaba Cloud maintains that it will help it to meet the surging demand for cloud computing services in India.


Alibaba Cloud will provide services including planning, implementation and after-sales support through its newly established local team. The new team will include experienced, professional consultants to assist customers as they migrate their data and business to the cloud.

Alibaba to invest US$100 million in Indian logistics firm

China/India, 1st January: Alibaba Group, the leading e-commerce company in China and indefatigable investor, will invest up to US$100 million in XpressBees, an Indian logistics company. The exact size of Alibaba’s stake has not been disclosed.


XpressBees is a logistics business spun out of FirstCry, a baby and maternity products retailer. FirstCry entered the logistics segment in 2012 and was spun off as Busybees in September 2015.

Northstar Travel Group acquires HotelsWorld

Sydney, 21st December: Last month, Northstar Travel Group announced the company acquired HotelsWorld, a leading series of hotel industry events targeting senior hotel executives in Australia & New Zealand. The events were acquired from Hotels World Australia Pty Limited which was founded and owned by John Smith. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.


HotelsWorld, held in July in Sydney, comprises four consecutive events over three days and it features over 100 speakers and attracts some 500 industry CEOs and senior executives involved in the operations and ownership of hotels, resorts, and serviced apartments across the region. After the acquisition, HotelsWorld will be part of Northstar’s Burba Hotel Network (BHN), an organiser of hotel investment conferences. John Smith will stay on with HotelsWorld under Northstar’s ownership.

Diversified Communications buys Mumbrella

Australia, 22nd December: Diversified Communications has completed the acquisition of Mumbrella, a leading brand in the digital publishing and marketing industry in Australia. No financial details were announced.


Co-founded by Martin Lane, Tim Burrowes and Ian Wakeling in 2008, Mumbrella is a marketing and media news platform, and has expanded into a multi-platform business including online news, e-newsletters and database subscription services as well as conferences and awards events. After the acquisition, Mumbrella will operate as an extension of Diversified Communications Australia and maintain its current structure and editorial team.
