Tokyo, 21st March: Messe Düsseldorf, an international exhibition organiser, has appointed Akiko Ohara as General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf Japan, succeeding Dr. Andreas Moerke. After 12 years in Japan, Dr. Moerke will return to a management position at the company’s home base in Germany as of 1st August 2019. Malaysia, 24th & 28th January: In Malaysia, UBM Malaysia and the Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) have recently appointed new senior managers.
UBM Malaysia announced the appointment of Gerard Leeuwenburgh as the Country General Manager effective 2nd January 2019. He has been in the MICE industry for over 25 years and has worked for leadership roles in various organisations including dmg events and VNU Exhibitions. In this new role, Gerard is responsible for the overall UBM portfolio in Malaysia. He succeeds Alun Jones who will leave the company by 31st January 2019. Gerard reports to Ian Roberts, Regional Executive Director of ASEAN for UBM.
UBM Asia Group Managing Director of the ASEAN Business M. Gandhi commented, “We are very excited to have Gerard on board. I am confident that he will be an excellent addition to the ASEAN management team and able to share his wealth of experience and provide the necessary leadership to further build our business.”
Meanwhile, MACEOS appointed Ms. Ho Yoke Ping as its new Executive Director effective 1st January 2019. She has served in various roles in the MICE industry for more than 20 years. Prior joining MACEOS, Ping was General Manager of the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
Dato’ Vincent Lim, President of MACEOS stated, “Ping’s reputation in the industry is formidable and it is an honour to have her on board the Association. With her, we are in the strong opinion that MACEOS will be able to strategically move forward.”
Asia, 15th January: dmg events, an international events and data group, announced the appointment of Mel Shah as Vice President of its operations in Asia.
Shah’s has 20 years of experience in the energy, digital, manufacturing, food and hospitality sectors in Asia. He has been responsible for developing key business units for various event organisations. In the new position, Shah will be responsible for growing dmg events’ portfolio across all of Asia.
Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, commented, “Mel has a deep understanding of operating successful entrepreneurial ventures in Asia and India. The addition of his expertise and senior leadership experience to our energy portfolio in South East Asia will help us capitalise on the opportunities this region offers our growing business.”

Bangkok, 30th October: VNU Exhibitions, an international event organiser, recently appointed Mr. Heiko M. Stutzinger as its new Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region.
According to VNU, Heiko is an experienced manager focused on business development and strategic growth initiatives. He is also experienced with restructuring and turnaround management. Heiko has more than ten years experience in senior management positions in trade show businesses and management consulting.
In this new role, he will oversee the entire Asia Pacific region and will set the strategy for VNU in the Asia Pacific region.
Heiko is currently Deputy General Manager of Messe Düsseldorf Shanghai as well as Deputy Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf China. Heiko will take on the new role as of 1st February 2019 and will be based in VNU’s Bangkok office.
