Paris, 6th June: The fourth edition of Global Exhibition Day (GED) was held on 5th June 2019. GED aims to highlight the exhibition industry’s value and role as a driver of economic growth.
GED 2019 promoted four core advocacy messages, including UFI’s recently released global and regional data related to the economic impact of exhibitions, which underscores how important exhibitions are in contributing to total economic output, job creation and GDP growth. GED activities were held in some 90 countries and regions on 5th June. A total of 41 GED partner associations supported and joined the celebrations.
Kai Hattendorf, UFI Managing Director/CEO, stated, “I am delighted that the success of GED19 has again served to raise the profile of our industry. It is an effective way of showing the world the economic impact and opportunities the exhibition industry offers. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you who joined forces for GED19 and provided all these outstanding contributions.”
GED 2020 will be held on 3rd June 2020, the first Wednesday in June.
Asia, 30th May: Media and events company, Questex Asia, announced the closure of its Asia media and publication division, including publications based in Singapore and Hong Kong.
According to media reports, Questex’s shuttered the titles at the end of May. However, Questex’s Asian event business, managed out of its Singapore office, will continue to operate, while the Hong Kong office will be closed. Catherine Wong, senior vice president, will continue to lead the Questex Asia team.
Questex Asia owns and operates more than 100 digital media products and over 50 conferences, tradeshows and events. It also owns several business information intelligence products. Earlier in March, the company reorganised its business into five key industry sectors: beauty & wellness, travel, hospitality, pharma and technology.
Catherine Wong remarked, “Our highest priority is our customers and our employees. They look to us to help them drive business goals and their careers. We continue to support them with the right brands, the right audience, the right solutions/services as well as the right support.”
Hannover/Jakarta, May: International exhibition organiser, Deutsche Messe, will join forces with Indonesian tradeshow company Wakeni, to organise a woodworking machinery and components event, IFMAC – International Furniture Manufacturing Component Exhibition.
Deutsche Messe organises LIGNA, a leading trade fair for woodworking and wood processing plant, machinery and tools. IFMAC was launched in 2012 and is held together with WOODMAC. Products at IFMAC include furniture-making and woodworking machinery and related materials and components.
Trade visitors are from furniture manufacturers and vendors; manufacturers of panel products; the timber processing and woodworking industries; the surface treatment industry; and designers, architects and building and construction firms.
The two companies will jointly organise the 8th edition of IFMAC for the first time running from 9th to 12th October 2019 at the Jakarta International Expo. According to Deutsche Messe, IFMAC 2018 featured over 300 exhibitors from 23 countries and attracted more than 13,000 visitors from 37 countries and regions.
Deutsche Messe Managing Board member Andreas Gruchow, stated, “The venture with IFMAC has major potential and positions us in a prospering market in Southeast Asia. In Indonesia, demand for efficiency-enhancing solutions, high-performance woodworking machines and modern accessories is very strong. Bangkok, 28th May: Organised by Koelnmesse, the 16th edition of THAIFEX-World of Food Asia concluded recently attracting over 67,000 trade visitors from 134 countries. THAIFEX was held at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center.
Running from 28th May to 1st June, the five-day show occupied an exhibition area of 107,000 m2, occupying all 11 halls at IMPACT. A total of 2,745 exhibitors from 42 countries and regions participated in the show – including 28 start-up companies.

Singapore, 4th June: The second edition of ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) Asia Pacific was held from 27th to 30th May 2019 featuring 572 suppliers from across the region. According to organiser, Reed Travel Exhibitions, the 2019 edition was 10% larger than the edition in 2018.
ILTM portfolio events introduce luxury travel brands to visitors and ILTM Asia Pacific targets on various geographic markets in the region. According to ILTM Asia Pacific, there were significant increases in trade buyers from Australia (9%), Korea (21%), Malaysia (33%), New Zealand (133%) and the Philippines (38%). In addition, visitors from Bangladesh, Moldova, Armenia, and Belarus attended the show for the first time.
ILTM Asia Pacific will return to Singapore at Marina Bay Sands, running from 18th to 21st May 2020.
Shanghai, 23rd May: CPhI & P-MEC China 2019 will run from 18th to 20th June, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). It is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors from over 120 countries. Sydney, 28th May: Sydney will open a new venue next year. The Sydney Coliseum Theatre will be able to accommodate audiences of between 300 and 2,000.
The venue is expected to cost A$100 million (US$73 million) and will be located within the West HQ precinct in the city centre. It will feature retractable seating and be able to accommodate up to 2,000 people in theatre mode. Other facilities will include a rehearsal room, a VIP room, dressing rooms, banquet areas and an outdoor cocktail space.
The Sydney Coliseum Theatre will also feature a rehearsal space and outdoor courtyard. The rehearsal space will be ideal for VIP private functions, while the outdoor courtyard, complete with Terrazzo flooring, can be used for pre-show VIP gatherings, corporate cocktails, post-conference debrief sessions, and private events.
In addition to the conference area, the multifunctional space will be capable of hosting up to 550 guests for a banquet event, awards night or gala dinner – and up to 750 guests for a cocktail party.

Now in its 8th edition, AIC 2019 will reach a new record 37,000 m2. According to the organiser, more than 200 recreational vehicles (RVs), RV parts, camping equipment and outdoor brands will participate in the show.
The show will welcome professional buyers as well as public visitors – particularly catering to families with children. They will experience the “AIC Kids Club” and “AIC Outdoor Club” as in previous years, as well as the new launch “AIC Starter World” for new RV owners.
A new conference, The 1st Asia RV Conference, will be held during the exhibition. Experts and industry leaders from the RV industry associations of Germany, Japan and China are expected to attend the conference.
