Thailand, 4th July: The Thai government has announced plans to build a new convention centre on its east coast as part of its strategy to build high-tech industries and related events.
The exact location is yet to be determined. According to Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the new venue will be located in Rayong, Chonburi or Chachoengsao. The venue is scheduled to be completed by March 2020 subject to government approval. The venue will complement two other convention venues: Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH) at Royal Cliff Beach Hotel and Nong Nooch Garden.
According to media reports, the new venue is part of the Thai government’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) initiative that aims to transform the eastern coastal region into a high-tech production base. As part of that strategy, the region is developing what it calls an “aerospace metropolis” that includes U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport and a number of nearby aviation-related businesses.
TCEB plans to launch an annual air show in the region in 2023 or 2024 to boost the country’s reputation as an aerospace hub. TCEB also has plans to establish an ASEAN MICE Institute in the EEC region.
