Thailand attracts 350+ MICE events in first half

Bangkok, 1st February: Last week, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) reported that more than 350 conventions will be held in Thailand in the first half of 2018. About 45% will be held in Bangkok and the remaining 55% will be held in other cities including Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, and Khon Kaen.

According to TCEB, Thailand welcomed more than 36 million MICE travellers last year, generating revenues of US$5.7 billion. International MICE visitors reached one million generating revenues of US$2.8 billion; while the remaining 35 million were domestic MICE travellers contributing US$2.9 billion to the local economy.

Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of TCEB, commented, “Our role as a host country for major MICE and Mega Events helps reaffirm confidence from business communities around the world about Thailand’s position as a truly world-class MICE destination… During the 2018 fiscal year, Thailand is expected to welcome 30.1 million MICE travellers, generating MICE revenue of up to 174 billion baht (US$5.5 billion). Of this total, 1.192 million international MICE travellers are expected to account for 112 billion baht (US$3.5 billion) MICE revenue, and 29 million domestic MICE travellers will add 62 billion baht (US$2.0 billion) MICE revenue into our economy.”
