Melbourne, 18th July: The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) set a new record during its last financial year, 2016-2017. During the year, the venue recorded revenues of A$80.1 million (US$64 million) and generated an economic impact for the state of Victoria of A$969 million (US$770 million).
In the year, MCEC hosted a total of 1,026 events – of those, 77 were exhibitions. More than 867,000 business event delegates attended the conventions and exhibitions. In total, more than 2 million visitors were recorded at the venue during the year.
MCEC’s Chief Executive, Peter King, stated,” Our business is going through an exciting period of growth. Our infrastructure is expanding, our employee numbers are increasing, and our customer list is growing… The next 12 months will be spent ensuring we are ready for the opening of our expanded space, in which we are anticipating a 10% increase in our workforce to deliver a 19% increase in event numbers.”
